UNDERSTANDING LABOUR LEGISLATION

COURSE OVERVIEW

This 2-day course provides the necessary foundation, overview and understanding of labour law in SA. By the end of the course delegates will be familiar with the key clauses of the Labour Relations Act, The Basic Conditions of Employment Act and The Employment Equity Act as well as all updated amendments relating to the above legislation.

CONTENT / OUTCOMES (Know, Do & Feel)

KNOW:

  • The legal framework and legislation content of Employee Relations in SA
  • The Labour Relations Act, and in particular organisational rights, strikes and lockouts, discipline and dismissal, disclosure of information, workplace forums and collective bargaining.
  • The Basic Conditions of Employment Act, in particular, working time, annual leave, compressed working week, working arrangements, overtime, public holiday work, night work, sick leave and family responsibility leave.
  • The Employment Equity Act and the prohibition of unfair discrimination and affirmative action measures, as well as employment equity planning

DO:

  • Advise on key areas of the above mentioned legislation
  • Risk assessment to ensure legislative compliance
  • Participate in discussions on key aspects of legislation
  • Assess procedural agreements, policy and procedures for legal compliance
